Theta QC

Theta QC

Theta QC is the first portable and mains-free optical tensiometer available. It measures static contact angle and has been developed primarily for quality control applications and for the characterization of large objects that cannot be measured with laboratory-based instruments.

 Features & Benefits

  • Compact and portable design enables measurements outside the laboratory environment and with large samples.
  • Unique stand-alone operation possible without a computer.
  • Automatic dispenser and dispenser movement combined with automatic data analysis makes the system simple and user-independent, which is ideal for quality control measurements.
  • Data transfer options to computer are possible both via wireless and cable connection.
  • Attension’s extensive service and application support team help you get the best from your instrument. Pre-studies can be conducted in an AttensionLab to assess the feasibility of your research, test samples for verification, and to demonstrate the suitability of our tensiometers to your research.

Product details

Theta QC is a portable contact angle meter, or goniometer, that measures contact angles. The instrument can be operated on mains, or on battery power for up to eight hours. It has a touchscreen that ensures quick and convenient operation. Menus are intuitive and enable rapid adjustment and measurement. The viewfinder visualizes the drop deposition to the sample.

Measurement of contact angles is a quick and reliable way to obtain information on material properties such as adhesion, homogeneity, surface free energy and printability. It can be used to check solid surfaces and the behavior of liquid on solids.

Syringes are used as liquid dispensers. They can be easily inserted into the instrument and can be simply refilled or replaced with another syringe, enabling you to use several liquids without contamination. Theta QC deposits droplets from a dispensing syringe and drops can be accurately placed on the solid sample with the viewfinder. After deposition, an image of the drop is taken and it is possible to set a delay between the drop deposition and the recording.

Theta QC analyses the drop shape and calculates the contact angles formed between the liquid and the solid using the Young- Laplace equation, a standard in tensiometry. The right contact angle, left contact angle and average contact angle are displayed on the screen. The instrument can save 200 results before transferring them to a computer.

Theta QC can be used in virtually any industry where surfaces and interfaces are important. The main areas where optical tensiometry is used for quality control include: paints and coatings, surface treatment and engineering, paper and packaging, printing, semiconductors and plastics.
